What works and what doesn't

It seems like there is money to be made when it comes to diet programs. How many people didn't know that, right? What happens when you stop the diet? You gain, but why? Did you fall back into the old habits that led you to having to diet? No, is probably the answer. You just started incorporating things that were restricted. You know what I'm talking about; no carbs, no dairy, more fat, and only 1000 cals. Think it is hype? You're right. It's also not realistic for maintaining. That is why so many people gain it back and sometimes gain even more than before. There isn't any teaching involved, it is, "just follow this and you will lose weight."
For many of us, we aren't thinking about the long road to keep the weight off. We are only interested in the here and now! "Now I have dropped those 20 lbs for summer and I look good!" So, when we start to enjoy ourselves and our 20 lb. lighter body we start to put the weight back on. Nice little cycle we have started. Omit to lose and indulge to gain. So around and around we go trying to figure out the dieting game.
Well, have you maintained your weight loss for an extended amount of time? Has it been 6 mos. since you lost your weight and haven't gained? Well, I want to hear what has worked for you!! There are so many neat little things to be learned when it comes to food and weight management that I would like to hear from anyone on this subject!

  1. Hi Jersey. Thanks for the starting this blog! I have always been an active person and have always battled my weight. Usually I always won. My parents taught us good habits as kids but my stomach never functioned properly and little did my parents or I realize it could be food sensitivities. When I turned 26 I suddenly gained 40lbs in less than a yr, I was fatigued, constant stomach turmoil, head fog, and MOODY!! It took 12 yrs to finally burn completely out....I mean fail my math exam to continue nursing not get out of bed for 3wks burn out! My sister introduced me to the Dukan diet. They have been and continue to be very successful with it. So I tried it...with in the first 4 days my head fog cleared by 7 I had so much energy back and by the end of the month I lost 16lbs and felt like a new person. Then my friend introduced me to Pink Method and I lost another 10lbs and felt even better. I have not gained any of this weight back for over a year. I am struggling moving forward right now because of all the changes I have had to make for the family. I am working on switching to Paleo because it eliminates most of what we can not eat. All three of these diets have taught me many things that I will carry with me for a lifetime.

    1. Hi Sevara!!!
I hope to incorp. more people...in this blog. I think before farming became such a big industry what farmers grew was great quality but since big corps. and mass production quality versus quantity has been the issue for many people. Wheat isn't wheat anymore. Actually, it too is chemically engineered half the time because the demand is great but the crop ain't. Unfortunate yes!
The Paleo diet or caveman way of eating in my opinion is the safest way to go with dieting and eating altogether. Grown from the ground won't make you frown. Quality protein will keep you lean! This was the way of our ancestors! I think it is difficult for many to take the "carb" out of their diet though because that is what they have known. However, fruits and veggies are carbs which many just don't get. Technically, you are omitting all the crappy carbs with the exceptions of potatoes. They grow from the ground and need no special chemicals to keep them ripe or to grow. Beans are also really good and they are multi-taskers!! They can be the protein or carb.. Love beans!!
You are doing amazing! Keep it up!

  2. Here I sit trying to figure out the right way to go about changing the minds of people that think carbs are bad..
Carbs are not the enemy the enemy is our over consumption of the "not so great" carbs. You know which ones I'm talking about; the mac and cheese, boxed potatoes, pasta and cereals that are loaded with sugar instead of fiber. How do you let people know that they can still eat carbs? Fruits and veggies are carbs and together make an awesome meal with protein.
I think people's conception of what a food is, is blurred. I am not an expert in anything but I think people view fruit as just that fruit. They also view veggies as just that veggies. I hate it when people say they aren't have carbs but then you look at what they are eating and it's meat, fruit and veggies. Really? No carbs? You sure about that?
People need to "see" food for what it is to the body. To the body amino acids are protein, meats beans and some dairy, carbs are fruits, veggies, and grains and lipids are fats.. good and bad...
Now recommendations for these 3 categories are shocking!
For protein we are supposed to consume 10-35%
    Carbs we should consume 45-65%
    and fats is 20-30%
These percentages are of the total energy intake. I know it's incredible isn't it! Look at the percentage of carbohydrate intake. Our diet should be 45-65% carbohydrates. Now the first thought is; "That's a lot of carbs and carbs make you fat and gain weight!" Well not if you're looking at fruits and veggies as carbs. Our bodies NEED carbs for energy. You know your body will function longer doing an activity if you have sufficient carbs stored! Mind blowing, right? Ever feel tired and plum exhausted even though you are eating healthy? Well, you might NOT be getting enough carbs to make your body happy!
Look at your plate the next time you eat and place your carbs as the main dish to your meal and your protein as the side along with your fat. You might be surprised to learn your body will wake up from having a sufficient amount of carbs!!
    Food for thought.
